ABERDEEN RECEIVES $340,000 GRANT FROM NJ DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION FOR RESURFACING AND DRAINAGE WORK ON SOUTH ATLANTIC AVENUE
ABERDEEN TOWNSHIP (8/24/11)— Aberdeen Township was awarded a $340,000 grant from the New Jersey Transportation Trust Fund’s Local Aid Infrastructure Fund (LAIF) program to cover the cost of roadway resurfacing and drainage work on South Atlantic Avenue.
The work will cover the stretch of South Atlantic Avenue running from Route 34 to the corner of Chilton Lane. Construction, which is tentatively scheduled for summer 2012, will take approximately four to six weeks to complete, according to Aberdeen Township Director of Public Works Bob Brady. With proper maintenance, the project should have a life expectancy of 20 years, he added.
South Atlantic Avenue, which runs for about a half-mile, carries a substantial amount of traffic because of drivers traveling to Matawan Regional High School and the Aberdeen-Matawan NJ Transit station, both located on Atlantic Avenue.
