ABERDEEN TOWNSHIP POLICE DEPARTMENT NOW OFFERING MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT REPORTS ONLINE
ABERDEEN TOWNSHIP (5/11/10) – In an effort to expedite the process of obtaining a motor vehicle accident report, the Aberdeen Township Police Department has partnered with PoliceReports.US, LLC to enable citizens and insurance companies to obtain reports on motor vehicle accidents investigated by the department via the Internet. With this, Aberdeen becomes the first department in Monmouth County to offer the reports online.
Effective May 15, 2010, accident reports can be retrieved via the township website www.aberdeennj.org. After arriving at the home page, click on the link for Departments and select Police. A link on the Police page will direct users to the link for Police Reports.US: http://aberdeentwpnj.policereports.us. Those in need of an accident report will continue to have the option of obtaining reports in-person at the Police Department.
There is a $3.00 service fee, payable to PoliceReports.Us, for on-line reports, plus 75 cents per page. A credit card or debit card is required for the transaction. There is no service fee to obtain reports in-person, only a per-page charge of 75 cents.
Reports can be searched by using any of the following information: report number, date of accident, name of driver or accident location, explained Lt. Joe Cole, administrative commander of Aberdeen Police Department. Reports should be available within five days from the date of the accident.
“The Aberdeen Township Police Department is pleased to make this service available to drivers who have been involved in a motor vehicle accident,” said Chief of Police John Powers. “Along with being a convenience for those who can't come to the Police Department during normal business hours or who live out of the area, it will help to increase efficiency in the records office and provide an even higher level of service to the public.”
Aberdeen’s partnership with PoliceReports.US is the latest technological advancement undertaken by the Department. Last year, the department obtained a Mini Thermal Monocular, a thermal imaging camera that allows officers to detect heat emitting objects that would not otherwise be visible to the officer. In 2008, the department added Info-Cop, wireless-based law enforcement information software that provides officers in the field with direct access to local, state and federal crime databases. Also in 2008, the department implemented LiveScan, an automated fingerprint system that allows officers to fingerprint offenders electronically, and transmit the impressions via computer directly to the NJ State Police for review.
