Due to Summer Hours Town Hall will be closing today, June 15th at 1:30 p.m.

Firearm applications and mental health records search forms are available in the dispatch center 24 hours per day, or by accessing the links below. Once you have completed the forms in their entirety, you may contact the detective bureau secretary at 732-566-2054 to begin the background investigation process. A detective will contact you within 5 business days of your call to review/accept your application and the appropriate state-mandated fees.

According to N.J.S.A. 2C:58-3(f), once your application is accepted, it may take up to an additional 30 days to receive your firearms identification card and/or handgun purchase permit(s). However, many of the factors encompassing the approval process are beyond the control of the police department, and these times often approach the 60 day mark. Some examples are fingerprinting appointment availability and responses from references and other outside agencies.

You will receive a phone call when the process is complete and your document(s) are ready to be picked up. Please do not contact the police department for any type of status update unless the listed time frames have expired.

Should you have any additional questions, please contact DSG Mike O’Dwyer.
