ABERDEEN RECEIVES CERTIFICATION FROM FEMA’S NATIONAL FLOOD INSURANCE PROGRAM COMMUNITY RATING SYSTEM, PAVING WAY FOR DISCOUNTED RATES
ABERDEEN TOWNSHIP (7/7/10) - Aberdeen Township today announced that residents who choose to purchase flood insurance will be able to do so at discounted rates due to the municipality’s participation in the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) Community Rating System (CRS).
The National Flood Insurance Program's Community Rating System is a voluntary incentive program that recognizes and encourages community floodplain management activities that exceed the minimum NFIP requirements. In order to participate in the program, communities must undertake a series of meaningful activities to protect its citizens from losses. The CRS classes for local communities are based on 18 creditable activities, organized under four categories: Public Information, Mapping and Regulations, Flood Damage Reduction, and Flood Preparedness.
“The community (Aberdeen) has undertaken a series of meaningful activities to protect its citizens from losses caused by flooding and has significantly exceeded the requirements for NFIP participation and effective floodplain management,” according to the certification notice.
