ABERDEEN RECEIVES GRANT FROM STATE FOR ROUTE 34
SIDEWALK IMPROVEMENTS PROJECT
ABERDEEN TOWNSHIP (7/26/10)—Aberdeen Township today announced that it will receive a grant of $160,000 from The State of New Jersey’s Department of Transportation -Transportation Trust Fund for the Route 34 Sidewalk Improvements project.
The improvements will consist of the construction of approximately 2,000 feet of new concrete sidewalk along the east side of State Highway 34 to better accommodate pedestrian movements from South Atlantic Avenue northward to the Aberdeen Township/Matawan Borough boundary near the Walgreen’s site, explained Township Engineer David Samuel, PE.
Existing conditions support that there are portions of existing sidewalk along the proposed tract of the improvements. The project will include the installation of new sidewalks in areas where none exist, as well as the removal and replacement of existing sidewalks in areas where deemed necessary.
The scope of the work also includes the installation of ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act)-compliant sidewalk ramps and delineations, the reconstruction of curbs and depressions, and sod restoration in accordance with Aberdeen’s annual Road Improvement Program.
The grant is expected to cover 100% of the project’s construction and engineering administration costs. Construction is projected to commence in Spring 2011 and be completed in approximately two months.
