ABERDEEN TOWNSHIP COUNCIL
AWARDS CONTRACT FOR
LIGHTING IMPROVEMENTS AT OAKSHADES PARK
ABERDEEN TOWNSHIP (10/3/07)—The Aberdeen Township Council
has awarded a contract for the replacement of sports lighting at
Oakshades Park’s Fireman’s Field to Quality Electric
of West Keansburg, N.J.
The contract was awarded following the submission of bids from four
New Jersey companies, with Quality Electric submitting the lowest
bid of $127,429. The new, more energy efficient lighting, is expected
to be installed this November.
Improved lighting at Fireman’s Field is the latest upgrade
to the facility located at Oakshades Park on Gerard Avenue and Lloyd
Road. Earlier this year, a full repaving of the parking area
adjoining Lloyd Road was completed under a project paid for by Monmouth
County.
Bids are scheduled to go out by the end of this month for a new infield,
refurbished dugout and a higher fence along the first baseline to
protect cars parked nearby. Work is scheduled for completion
prior to the start of the spring 2008 sports season. Fireman’s
Field is used by the Township’s soccer and girls softball programs,
as well as men’s softball leagues. Another paved parking area
is expected to be added for users of the park next year in conjunction
with the planned reconstruction of Gerard Avenue.
The upcoming improvements at Fireman’s Field will be done in
tandem with a reconditioning of the second infield at Ross Field
in Cliffwood Beach. In 2006, the park’s first infield was reconditioned
with drainage.
“Aberdeen Township is committed to keeping its recreational facilities
in the safest condition possible,” said Councilman Owen Drapkin. “The
lighting and field improvements ensure a safe and comfortable environment for
players and fans alike at Oakshades Park.”
