ABERDEEN REMINDS RESIDENTS OF ADDITIONAL OPTIONS
FOR DISCARDING RECYCLABLES
ABERDEEN TOWNSHIP (04/11/07) --Aberdeen Township residents who prefer not to wait for their regularly scheduled curbside recycling pickup can discard their recyclables at two designated Township drop off sites.
Residents have the option of either dropping off their recyclables at the Public Works garage on Lenox Road off Cliffwood Avenue, weekdays between 6:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., or on the third Saturday of the month between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. In addition, recyclables can be brought to the Aberdeen Town Hall parking lot on the third Saturday of the month between 10:00 a.m.- 2:00 p.m.
Under the recently introduced enhanced recycling program, residents must now also include cardboard and mixed paper along with their once-monthly pick-up of newspapers. Like the newspapers, cardboard must be broken down and bundled. Mixed paper (including magazines, circulars and other ‘junk mail,’ telephone books, and all other paper products) must be placed in a closed container. If desired, the mixed papers can be placed in clear plastic bags within the containers. Additionally, plastic bottles—previously optional—must now be included with the monthly pickup of cans and glass containers.
In late December, Aberdeen contracted with low-bidder Future Sanitation to provide trash, recycling and bulk pick-up services to residents of the municipality under a five-year agreement.
“Under the new contract, all funds resulting from the sale of the recycled goods will come to the Township, potentially benefiting our taxpayers,” noted Deputy Mayor Wilhelmina Gumbs “Accordingly, in addition to the environmental benefits, it is in our residents’ best interest to fully comply with the expanded recycling program.”
“This program ‘begins at home’ and I am pleased to report that Aberdeen Township employees have really embraced the new recycling program,” added Councilman Vincent Vinci. “Everyone at Town Hall recycles all of our mixed paper.”
