ABERDEEN TOWNSHIP ADDS WEEKLY SATURDAY RECYCLING
TIMES AT PUBLIC WORKS GARAGE
ABERDEEN TOWNSHIP (12/2/08) – In an effort to make recycling easier and more convenient, Aberdeen Township has announced that, beginning Saturday, December 6, the Public Works Garage will be open every Saturday for residents to drop off recyclables. Previously, drop-offs were limited to weekdays and the third Saturday of the month.
Those who don’t want to wait for their regularly scheduled curbside pickups of glass, cans, plastics, newspapers, cardboard and mixed paper, can now bring those items six days a week to the Garage, which is located on Lenox Road, off of Cliffwood Ave., in the Cliffwood Beach section. Operating hours are 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Residents can also continue to bring recyclables to the Aberdeen Town Hall parking lot on the third Saturday of the month between 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.
In early 2007, Aberdeen introduced an enhanced recycling program that required residents to include cardboard and mixed paper along with their once-monthly pickup of newspapers, and plastic bottles with their monthly pickup of cans and glass containers.
“By keeping the Public Works Garage open every Saturday we hope to make it easier to take part in our enhanced recycling program by providing increased options for those who have large quantities of recyclables or do not want to wait for their regularly scheduled curbside pickup,” said Joseph Criscuolo, Township Manager. “Recycling not only improves the environment, but helps keep our property taxes lower through a combination of revenues that we receive for the materials as well as lower disposal fees at the county landfill.”
In addition to the aforementioned items, the Public Works Garage’s recycling area accepts used motor oil, batteries and anti-freeze; bulk items containing metals (refrigerators, air conditioners, washers, dryers, water heaters, bed frames, etc.); and tattered American Flags. The Garage also serves as a pick-up point for free mulch and compost generated from Aberdeen’s leaf collections.
